SSPC makes presentation to President McAleese in Boston

The SSPC was recently selected from among all SFI's funded Strategic Research Clusters (SRC's) to make a presentation on the Research Topics and Industry Engagement of the cluster to the President of Ireland, Mary McAleese, at an event in the Whitehead Institute, MIT in Cambridge Massachusetts USA.

The Department of Foreign Affairs had approached SFI in relation to the visit by President McAleese to Boston in May 28th. SFI was requested to convene an event which the President attended. The half day seminar targeted Irish Researchers in the US (Academia and Industry) and others with an audience of around 120-150. In addition to the President and Director General of SFI, Frank Gannon, speaking a series of presentations from SFI researchers was convened. The theme of the event was built around the Government document published in December 2008 "Building Irelands Smart Economy " and SFI's recently launched "Powering the Smart Economy" Strategy 2009-2013.

Professor Kieran Hodnett presented on behalf of the SSPC. A copy of the SSPC presentation can be seen here.
